Saving mail
from the server to the PC using Outlook Express
1. First create an account in the Outlook Express in IMAP
mode. Click Tools, Accounts,
Add, Mail.
Then input your name and email address when prompted. Then
in the next screen, select IMAP and enter
the incoming and outgoing server names as in the following
screen:

2. Login your email server using your account name and password.
For those who use hkucc.hku.hk as the incoming server, click Tools, Accounts, Properties, IMAP and put mail/ in the
root folder path. Then click OK. This tells
OE to display all your folders in the mail directory on the
server.

3. Select the folders on the server to be displayed in OE.
Click on the server name on the left, then
click the "IMAP Folders" button
on the right, and select some or all of the folders to be
displayed by clicking the "Show"
button on the right.

4. Create a new local folder in OE by clicking on the Local
Folders on the left side. Then click File,
New, Folder and give the new folder a name
(for example new-folder).
5. Click a server folder to open it, select the messages (not folder) and
move them by dragging and dropping them into
the local folder. The messages would then be deleted from
the server folder. If you wish to copy and
not delete the messages from the server, then hold down the
<Ctrl> key on your keyboard while dragging and dropping
the messages.
NOTE: Do not click
the button "Synchronize Account" if you do not want
to have the same files and folders on the server and the PC.
