Your IP address must be unique
on the network. When another person uses the same IP address
as yours, you will get an IP-conflict alert from the system.
Note down the network card number (hardware address) of
the other user and report to the Help Desk at Run Run Shaw,
Room 104 (tel. 2859-2480) or send email to ithelp@hku.hk

Query the network card number (hardware address) of the
other user as follows:
In Windows XP, click: Start, Settings,
Control Panel,
double click on Administrative Tools, Event
Viewer, System Log,
right-click on the Error icon (in
red) and select Properties,
the network card number of the other user will be displayed
in the error description window.
Note: For users of ACEnet, Wireless LAN
and Hallnet: You must set your network configuration to
select 'Obtain
an IP address automatically'.
