User Guide for Microsoft NetMeeting

Note: This User Guide is applicable for Windows XP only.

(A) Set up NetMeeting (Do only once)

1.  To run NetMeeting in Windows XP: Click Windows Start button, click Run, enter: conf, then click OK button.

2.  Click Next.

3. Enter the user's First name, Last name and E-mail address.  Then click Next.

4.  Tick  the upper check box "Log on to a directory server when NetMeeting starts";

=> then enter Server name: ils.hku.hk

=> Click Next.

5.  Select Local Area Network, then click Next.

6.  Click Next.

7. Click Next.

8.  If you have loud speakers, test your speakers according to this instruction from NetMeeting.

    Then click Next.

9.  If you have a microphone, speak to your microphone and use the slide bar to adjust the Record Volume to yellow.

    Then click Next.

10.  Click Finish.

11.  If the following screen is shown, click Unblock.


(B) Establish a NetMeeting call

(a) At the Calling End

1.  Click the NetMeeting icon on the desktop

or click Windows Start button, click Run, enter: conf, then click OK button.

2.  Click the button Place Call.

3.  Enter the IP address of the receiving end.  Then click the button Call.

4.  Start the conversation if the call is answered.

5.  To hang up, click the button End Call.

 

(b) At the Receiving End

1.  Click the NetMeeting icon on the desktop

or

Windows Start button, click Run, enter: conf, then click OK button.

2.  Click the button Accept, when a ringing tone is heard.

3.  Start the conversation.

4.  To hang up, click the button End Call.


(C) Presentation by PowerPoint through NetMeeting

(a) At the Sending End

1.  Click to open the PowerPoint program.  Open your PowerPoint file.  Then minimize the PowerPoint window.

2.  At the bottom of the NetMeeting window, click the button Share Program .

3.  Select the program PowerPoint.  Then click the button Share.

4.  Close the window Sharing - Programs.

5.  Minimize the NetMeeting window.

6. Open the PowerPoint window.  Click the button Slide Show at the lower left corner of  the PowerPoint window.

7.  After the presentation, press the key Esc on the keyboard to exit the slide show.

 

(b) At the Receiving End

1.  Maximize the shared program if necessary.

2..Click the NetMeeting window menu View.  Select Full Screen in the drop-down menu.

3.  After the PowerPoint presentation, click the button Restore at the upper right corner on the screen to resume control.
