To connect to the classroom network, no prior registration
of the Ethernet address of the network card is required. However,
your PC must support the TCP/IP protocol. Simply configure
your PC to use the DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol)
service so that it can obtain an IP address and other network
parameters automatically when it is connected to the network
connection point. Under Windows platforms, this can be done
by:
- Specifying to obtain an IP address automatically
- Disabling DNS
Both options can be selected under Properties of the TCP/IP
network component of your PC.
Locations of the centrally time-tabled classrooms on the
main campus can be found at the Classroom Services Unit's
web page, http://www.hku.hk/csuhp/central.htm.

Notes for Using Classroom Network:
- IMPORTANT: Do NOT use any IP address
other than the one assigned as that will affect your computer
and other computers.
- You are strongly advised to test out the network in the
classroom where you intend to teach beforehand. Book a session
of the classroom and do a trial-run, i.e. from connecting
the computer to the network connection point and to running
software on your computer. This ensures that problems can
be detected earlier.
Help on problems on connecting to the classroom network
(e.g."the network is down", "cannot access
the host computers managed by the Computer Centre")
can be sought by calling the Computer
Centre Helpdesk at 2859 2480 or in case of urgency,
the Computer Room at 2859 2496.
- Our network interface connection is the Unshielded Twisted
Pair (UTP) type. The network connection point is labelled
as 'Classroom Network'. If more than one network connection
point is required for the instructor's use, please contact
the Computer Room (RR108, phone: 2859 2496) at least one
week in advance before the commencement date of the class.
