Procedure to configure Android to support Universities via Y5ZONE

A. Pre-requisite

To access Universities via Y5ZONE, you must:

  • For HKU Portal account created before 5 June 2009, register to enable Universities via Y5ZONE access by login HKU Portal => Campus Information Services => Central IT Services => Register to use WiFi service.
  • For HKU Portal account created on or after 5 June 2009, no registration is required.
  • Please note that the previous firmware release Android v1.5 or below do not support Universities via Y5ZONE. Your firmware must upgraded to v1.6 or above.

B. Configuration Procedure (To be done once only)

  1. Go to the main menu.

  2. Choose Settings.

  3. Choose Wireless & Networks.

  4. Choose Wi-Fi settings.

  5. Tap Universities via Y5ZONE.

  6. Set EAP Type to PEAP.

  7. Set Phase 2 Authentication to MSCHAPV2.

  8. Set Identity to your HKU Portal UID in the format of UID@hku.hk.

  9. Set Wireless password to your HKU Portal PIN.

  10. Click Save.

  11. Android should now connect automatically to Universities via Y5ZONE.

C. Security Note

Since HKU Portal UID and PIN are employed to login at Universities via Y5ZONE, as a better password security measure, you would be asked to change your HKU Portal PIN if you have not changed it for six months.
