Procedure to configure MAC OS X to support Universities via Y5ZONE

A. Pre-requisite

To access Universities via Y5ZONE, you must:

• Ensure that Wi-Fi LAN Card is WPA-compliance.
• Update the latest WLAN driver from vendor.
• For HKU Portal account created before 5 June 2009, register to enable Universities via Y5ZONE by login HKU Portal => Campus Information Services => Central IT Services => Register to use WiFi service.
• For HKU Portal account created on or after 5 June 2009, no registration is required.

B. Configuration Procedure (To be done once)

1. In the apple menu, select System Preferences.
   
   
   
   
2. In the System Preferences, under the Network and Internet section, click Network.
   
   
   
   
3. On the next screen, select Turn Airport On, unlock the interface if locked, and click on Advanced.
   
   
   
   
4. Click on the + button to add a new network.
   
   
   
   
5. Select Show Network
   
   
   
   
6. Select Universities via Y5ZONE from the available wireless networks.
   
   
7. Type in your UID@hku.hk in the User Name field.
   
   
8. Type in your HKU Portal PIN in the Password field.
   
   
9. Select Automatic for 802.1X Configuration.
   
   
10. Click Add.
    
    
    
    
11. Click OK.
    
    
12. You may then get a box stating "The server certificate is not trusted because there are explicit trust settings". Click Continue.
    
    
    
    
13. Your computer should now connected to the Universities via Y5ZONE wireless network.

C. Connection Procedure (Connect to Universities via Y5ZONE)

1. Click WiFi icon at the top and select Universities via Y5ZONE. .
   
   
2. A warning message about certificate is a not-trusted certificate may be displayed.
   
   
3. Click Continue button to bypass the warning message.
   
   
4. You should now be connected to the Universities via Y5ZONE wireless network.

D. Security Note

Since HKU Portal UID and PIN are employed to login Universities via Y5ZONE, as a better password security measure, you would be asked to change your HKU Portal PIN if you have not changed it for six months.
