A. Pre-requisite
To access "Universities via Y5ZONE" provided by Y5ZONE, you must:
- Ensure that Wi-Fi LAN Card is WPA-compliance
- Update the latest WLAN driver from vendor
- For HKU Portal account created before 5 June 2009, register to enable eduroam access by login HKU Portal => Campus Information Services => Central IT Services => Register to use WiFi service.
- For HKU Portal account created on or after 5 June 2009, no registration is required.

B. Installation Procedure (To be done once)
This section describes the configuration of the generic Windows Mobile 6.0 smartphone WLAN interface and is based on the LG KS20 Smartphone. Depending on the models of the smartphone, the settings may be different. For other models, please consult your vendor or refer to the user manual of your smartphone.
- Click Start => Settings => Connections tab => Connections => Wireless Manager.

- Click WiFi to turn on wireless signal.

- Click Start => Settings => Connections => Click Wi-Fi.

- Click "Universities via Y5ZONE" from the Wireless Network list.
- On the General tab
- Select The Internet from the Connects to: drop-down menu.

- On the Network Key tab
- Select either WPA or WPA2 from the Authentication drop-down menu.
- Select either TKIP or AES from the Data Encryption drop-down menu.

- On the 802.1x tab
- Select PEAP from the EAP type drop-down menu.

- Click OK to close the Configure Network Authentication screen.

C. Connection Procedure (Connect to Universities via Y5ZONE)
- Click on "Universities via Y5ZONE" and choose Connect.
- In the Network Log On screen,
- Type in your HKU Portal UID in the format of UID@hku.hk in the User name field.
- Type in your HKU Portal PIN in the Password field.
- Leave the Domain blank
- Click OK.

D. Important Notes
- Since HKU Portal UID and PIN are employed to login at Y5ZONE WiFi, as a better password security measure, you would be asked to change your HKU Portal PIN if you have not changed it for six months.
- When connecting to Y5ZONE WiFi, users must connect to SSID "Universities via Y5ZONE".
- Please DO NOT connect to SSID "Y5ZONE". This SSID is set up for Y5ZONE WiFi service subscribers only.
- Starting from 1/1/2009, the SSID "JUCC" will be replaced by SSID "Universities via Y5ZONE".
