Co-ordination Group for Departmental PC/Network Support

The Computer Centre has co-ordinated the set up of a new Departmental PC/Network Support Co-ordination Group and representatives from all departments responsible for PC and network support in their departments are invited to join the group.  Enthusiastic response from departments has been received and we are now having 85 departmental representatives in this group.  This co-ordination group is set up under one of the proposals of the Information Infrastructure Advisory Group, a functional advisory group of the Senate Computer Committee, and the Computer Centre is taking up the co-ordination role to realize this meaningful proposal for the benefits of the University as a whole.
The primary aim of setting up this Co-ordination Group for Departmental PC/Network Support is to cohere the technical staff of various departments together to form a collaboration in order to achieve the following objectives:

1.     To foster better information sharing and exchange of experience on good practices and know-how of departmental PC and network support.

2.     To establish an informative and valuable resource on departmental PC/Network support to assist them in solving the commonly encountered problems within different University departments.

3.     To provide the Computer Centre with suggestions/feedback to help improve the services.

4.     To make effective use of the University's resources through concerted effort.

The above objectives will be attained through a wide spectrum of activities to be arranged, such as organizing technical seminars and workshops on the latest development of the University’s computer and network facilities, on technology updates and other topics that would be of common interest to members of the group.  Electronic discussion board and mailing list have also been set up to facilitate and foster communication and information sharing among the group members.

The Computer Centre will organize technical seminars/workshops of different topics that would be of common interest to the group members.  Members of the group will be notified of the schedules of the forthcoming technical seminars/workshops by email.
