| The Computer Centre has organized a one-day retreat on March 22, 2003
at the Robert Black College to gather input from our professional staff
to set our development direction for the next year towards realizing the
3-year IT Strategy
that we have formulated for 2002-2005 in April 2002.
The Computer Centre Retreat 2003 is a focused strategic planning forum with organized activities, in a close and relaxing environment, for the dedicated staff members of the Computer Centre to develop management, organization and service goals and strategies. We are particularly excited this year that Professor Lap-Chee Tsui, Vice-Chancellor, had accepted our invitation to join our Retreat and had a sharing session with our Centre's colleagues. Professor Tsui shared with us his vision of the strategic development and challenges of the University, commitment to establishing a competent, effective and streamlined governance and management structure for the University's endeavour to thrive as one of the leading world-class universities and support towards embracing the use of advanced and innovative information and communications technology in supporting teaching, learning, research and administration in the University. The group discussions at the Retreat were solid and fruitful. Working together, we reviewed our strengths and weaknesses, discussed the challenges and values, looked at the future of emerging information and communication and evaluated quality improvement. Group members also brainstormed proposals for realising the strategic goals, setting specific targets for emerging technologies to be deployed as well as quality services to be developed in various functional areas of the Computer Centre. All participants reported having a good time and feeling an increased sense of bonding and competitive spirit, in particular being energised by the sharing of the Vice-Chancellor and expectations on Computer Centre's contribution to assisting the University in its mission. The Management Team of the Computer Centre is now concentrating on working out a detailed strategic action plan in light of the opinions and innovative suggestions collected at the Retreat. We shall continue to keep our users updated of the new developments in the Computer Centre in the realization of our aspiration and commitment to accelerating the development of a Paperless "Green" University. |
