Statistics Package SPSS on Unix Server Will Retire After August 2010

With the availability of the PC versions of the statistical analysis software SPSS for many years, we notice a continuous decreasing trend in the use of SPSS on the Unix server (currently run on the SMPSERVE system) over the past few years.  The PC versions of SPSS support a more user-friendly user interface and a better display of graphical results.

In view that only a few users are presently using SPSS on the SMPSERVE system, the subscription of the Unix version of SPSS will be terminated after August 2010.  Users of SPSS on SMPSERVE are advised to use a PC version of SPSS instead before August 31, 2010.

Staff and students can use SPSS for Windows in our PC laboratories in Run Run Shaw Building and Old Library Building.  For details of the installation of SPSS modules in the laboratory PCs, please refer to http://www.itservices.hku.hk/home/facilities/rmbook_sw.htm.

Departments can also purchase the following PC versions of SPSS licenses for use by their staff and student members by submitting a CC Order Form to the Computer Centre through the HKU Portal.  (Login to HKU Portal => click the tab "Services" => under "Computer Centre Services",  click the link "Order License and Goods" => "Place Order".)
