How To Download the Latest Version
of Netscape Browser
In our last issue of the Computer News #66, we had announced that new versions of the HKUPPP package for Windows 3.1, Windows 95 and Macintosh have been released.
The major difference between Netscape v3.01 and the previous Netscape v1.1. is that Netscape v3.01 allows the viewing of web pages built with Java and JavaScript for Windows 95 and Macintosh. For Windows 3.1, only Javascript is supported. This means that you can now view more colors, animated graphics and other features using more advanced web technology.
You may either choose to purchase the whole package (6 diskettes) from our General Office at $60 or download your own Netscape 3.01 if you have the previous PPP package and if your system has at least 16 MB Ram or more.
This user guide describes how to download the latest version of Netscape Browser from an official Netscape mirror site, say at the Department of Computer Science of our University, using any version of Netscape browser. Type in the field “Location” the following URL: ftp://ftp.cs.hku.hk/pub/netscape/navigator/3.01/
Then follow the instructions described in the file README.txt, according to which platform you are using:
for Macintosh: click mac, then click README.txt, study it and download netscape3.01.hqx
for Windows 3.1: click windows, then click README.txt, study it and download n16e301.exe
for Windows 95: click windows, then click README.txt, study it and download n32e301.exe
Please also ensure that you set the Proxy Server settings correctly.
