IMSL migration from HKURSC to HKUSUB

The Computer Centre is pleased to announce that the IMSL mathematical software library has been migrated from HKURSC to HKUSUB.

The HKUSUB system has 8 CPUs and 1GB of memory, capable of running 8 programs at the same time. This makes it much faster than traditional single CPU system. On the other hand, the HKURSC system is a single CPU system. It has been in operation for long period of time and the system is running huge amount of CPU intensive jobs. Many of these jobs involves the use of IMSL library. In view of the fact that the utilization of HKURSC is coming close to saturation, we have decided to migrate the IMSL from HKURSC to HKUSUB and we anticipate that the the new system could run more jobs with a faster turn around time.

The library installed on HKUSUB is a new version of IMSL called Fortran 90 MP Mathematics and Statistics Libraries. In addition all existing functions of the old IMSL Mathematics and Statistics libraries, this new version also includes Fortran 90 subroutines and multi-threaded subroutines. Please refer to this web page for the detail information about the new features.

Existing HKURSC users using this library should migrate their program to run on HKUSUB by recompile their programs in HKUSUB. A new web page http://www.itservices.hku.hk/ccsystem/software/imsl/index.html has been set up to consolidate the procedure in compiling IMSL programs on HKUSUB with other up-to-date information about the library.

For further information about the new IMSL library and for any problems encountered in using the library, please contact the undersigned.
