We are pleased to announce that from February 1, 1999, the operation hours of the Computer Room of the Computer Centre will be extended to 24 hours, including Sundays and public holidays. All central host computers, network equipment and dial-up facilities in the Centre's Computer Room will be running closely attended by our operations staff on a 24-hour basis. In this way, we can provide a much quicker response to systems and network incidents throughout the year to improve the availability of the systems and network services. The extension of operating hours is possible with the transfer of some staff of the ESU (Electronic Service Unit) to the Computer Centre and is a major service enhancement of the Computer Centre to support the learning, research and administrative activities of the University.
Though the Computer Room is open 24 hours throughout the year, the opening hours of the Centre's computer laboratories will be different and are detailed below. We expect this extension of operation hours in the Computer Room will be greatly welcomed by University members.
