Upgrade of The HKUSP2 System

With the installation of the new file server, the upgrade of the HKUSP2 supercomputer from 32 nodes of 66.25MHz processors to 48 nodes of 160MHz processors is now complete.

Files of all existing HKUSP2 users have been transferred to this new file server.  The transfer of user files to the new file server should be transparent to our users.  Nevertheless, users are advised to check their accounts, ensuring that all their files have been successfully transferred.  Please contact Mr. W. K. Kwan or Mr. C. M. Woo (see undersigned) if you detect any problems.  The old file server has been decommissioned on January 27, 1999.

The new file server has a total user disk storage of 191 GB. With the system upgrade and the increase in user disk storage, the default disk quota for all HKUSP2 users is now increased to 50 MB. Disk quota of existing users who were allocated less than 50MB before will now be increased to this new default level.

To check your disk quota allocation and usage of your HKUSP2 account, use the command 'checkquota' after you login the HKUSP2 system.

If there are any queries on the HKUSP2 system, please contact the undersigned.
