The Computer Centre is coordinating a site licensing arrangement on Norton AntiVirus software product for the University with Symantec Hong Kong Limited. The arrangement is intended to provide a cost-effective and easy-to-manage program for the departments to acquire and maintain this Anti-Virus product.

The program covers a period of 12 months which will be effective from 1 July 1999 to 30 June 2000. Details of the program are as follows :

• A copy of the software license has to be acquired for each single computer.

• The license fee schedule for the software covering 1999 - 2000 is as follows:

•  Departments can enjoy the latest upgrade and virus signature update of the licensed software copies free of charge during the license period.

• The initial term of the program is 1 year and is subject to annual renewal in order to get the latest upgrade and virus signature update of the software.

• The licenses offered under the program are perpetual. Departments have to renew their licenses annually should they wish to keep the software up-to-date.

• The software can be installed on a network provided that each computer which can access the software has a license for the software.

• The platforms to be supported include Win95/98, Mac OS, Win NT, OS2 and any latest desktop operating systems from Microsoft.

• Multilingual versions of the software including English, Chinese and Japanese are available under the program. Each language of the software to be run requires a copy of the license.

• Each participating department will be provided a free copy of the media (normally with both English and Chinese versions) on the latest version of the software when available. The Japanese version is to be provided upon request.

• A number of training sessions will be organized by Symantec and the participating departments are free to join in the training sessions at no charge.
