Hardware Upgrade on the HKUCC system

We are pleased to inform our users that we have enhanced the user disk storage of the HKUCC system from 135GB to 220GB and the memory of each of the two nodes of the system from 512MB to 1 GB.  In addition, we have also added two DLT tape drives to the HKUCC system.

The HKUCC system is the general email, computing and network server primarily for staff's use.  It is set up as a High Availability (HA) system with two units of Compaq 1200 5/533 AlphaServers.  With the HA feature, we have been able to upgrade the system smoothly without shutting down the system and affecting any users.

The memory upgrade is to improve the response of the system.  The added DLT tape drives will shorten the time required for data backup, a process which took a long time in the past and affected the normal performance of the HKUCC system.  The addition of the tape drives further improves the response of the HKUCC system in the morning. The added user disk storage also enables us to better support application packages which require large data storage.
