Progress of Phasing out of the HKURSC and HKUSGA systems

The Computer Centre has announced in our previous issue of the Computer News our plan of phasing out the HKUSGA (a SGI PowerChallenge L) system and the HKURSC (an IBM RS/6000 390) system by the end of July 2000.

We wish to inform our users that the HKUSGA system has been phased out as planned on July 31, 2000.

For the HKURSC system, so far we have only been able to install the MAPLE V, MATLAB and SPLUS software packages on the HKUSUA (a SUN Enterprise 10000) system.  Due to issues related to software licensing, we have to delay the migration of the SPSS, LISTREL and MATHEMATICA packages from HKURSC to HKUSUA and continue to keep the HKURSC system for running these packages until they can be installed on the HKUSUA system.  Once the software packages are available on HKUSUA, we shall inform our users further and proceed to phase out the HKURSC system.

Please contact the undersigned if you have further enquiries about the phasing out of the HKURSC system.
