The Computer Centre is currently working with the Estates Office and the Classroom Services Unit to furnish the Rayson Huang Theatre with state-of-the-art wireless LAN and video-conferencing facilities, as part of the Theatre's major redevelopment project this summer. With a wireless LAN, a mobile user can connect to a local area network and the Internet through a radio connection. With video-conference, people in separate locations can communicate with each other in live audio and video transmission.
The plan is to install the latest wireless LAN technology products (i.e. IEEE 802.11b standard compliant) in the renovated Rayson Huang Theatre with seating capacity of 320. The conjunctive foyer and reception area will also be provided with similar wireless LAN service. Video-conferencing equipment integrated with the theatre's audio-visual systems will enable multi-party video-conferencing sessions over LAN and ISDN. Facilities will also be installed to enable live web-casting of events taking place in the theatre.
Watch for more information on the progress of the project in the coming
issues of the Computer News.
