HKU Electronic Service Delivery (ESD) System in Operation

The Computer Centre is pleased to announce that the HKU ESD System which makes use of digital signatures supported by HKU-Cert (digital certificates issued by HKU Certification Authority (CA) to University staff and students) has been put into operation on 16 October 2000.

The use of digital signatures can speed up the work flow from an end user initiating a request to the final completion of the whole process. Digital signatures provide reliable user authentication and assured data integrity.  The use of ESD eliminates the requirement of written signatures and circulation of paper forms, thus increasing the productivity and service quality.

The first two HKU ESD applications introduced to HKU members are:

The Computer Centre has held a seminar for representatives from departments on the use of the ESD system in early October and it was very well-received. Some departments have started to acquire the HKU-Cert in order to use this new service.  The Computer Centre is also working with some departments in pilot projects for using the FormFlow System to deliver their own services electronically. For details on how to start using the HKU ESD system, please refer to our ESD homepage.

If you wish to find out how the ESD platform can help you deliver your departments services electronically, please contact the undersigned.
