Computer Centre's Annual Report for Year 2000-2001 Accessible from the Web

The Computer Centre's Annual Report 2000-2001 which was reported to the Senate is now on the Web. The report summarises the major development and activities of our Centre during the period between June 2000 and  - June 2001. Furthermore, the important areas of development envisioned for the current year are also highlighted in the report. 

Among the many areas reported, the following are a few areas that may be of interest to many of our users:

  • Paperless Digital University initiative was moving ahead with notable progress through the leading development of the HKU Electronic Services Delivery (HKUESD).  Good support has been received from various departments; digital certificates (HKU-Cert) were issued to the University staff and students; and various HKUESD applications have been developed for use by the University members.
  • Campus Network Infrastructure Development was upgraded with Gigabit Ethernet and Wireless LAN technologies for higher bandwidth capacity, better resilience and performance, and convenient access. 
  • Various administrative applications were developed, enhanced and successfully launched, e.g. the web-version of Oracle Financials R11i and a new Mandatory Provident Fund system.
  • Upgrading of the central computer servers and new development in high performance computing facilities.
