New HKUESD Applications Available from July 2002

Since the introduction of the HKUESD (HKU Electronic Services Delivery), the Computer Centre has been working closely with a number of departments to make use of the digital signature technology for enhancing the quality of  various administrative services in terms of greater processing efficiency, to reduce the use of paper forms and the convenience of access for departments and staff members.

We are pleased to announce in addition to the current list of HKUESD systems, we have recently cooperated with the Human Resource Section and the Research Services Section of the Registry to enable departments to administer both Long Leave and Annual Leave applications, and to collect research collaboration and research outputs information through HKUESD, which can be reached at https://hkuesd.hku.hk:8000/servlets/EService/loginESD.

HKUESD Annual Leave and Long Leave systems

The HKUESD Annual Leave and Long Leave systems enable leave application and approval to be processed on-line through HKUESD.  They provide a user-friendly and secured means for staff members and department heads to process leave applications electronically through their desktop, at office or at home.

For staff members on the Long Leave scheme, leave applications can be made via HKUESD, and approval will be acknowledged by means of email. For departments who are currently using the UIS Annual Leave system, please note that it will be replaced by the new HKUESD Annual Leave system by the end of 2002.

HKUESD Research Collaboration and Research Outputs systems

RSS has the requirement of knowing the quantifiable indicators of research collaboration undertaken by University members with Mainland and overseas scholars.  The HKUESD Research Collaboration system is provided to collect information on research collaboration which is one of the dimensions of research activities that should be covered in the University's Annual Report to RGC.

The HKUESD Research Outputs system collects information on staff and student publications.  Major use of the data includes RGC annual report on Research Activities, UGC CDCF table 61 and 62, and annual "Research & Scholarship" CDROM.  The system is designed with user-friendly interface to ease inputting of special characters.

Workshops & seminar on introduction to the new HKUESD systems

The Computer Centre offers to provide training, with hands-on trial, for the ESD leave systems.  Details of the training and enrolment procedures can be viewed at http://www.hku.hk/local/cc/training/schedule.htm.

To demonstrate how to input research outputs into the new HKUESD Research Outputs system, the Research Services section of the Registry will conduct a seminar with demonstration on July 9, 2002, 4:30 - 5:30 pm, Lecture Theatre 3, Meng Wah Complex.

How to gain access to HKUESD

To gain access to the HKUESD systems, staff members are required to get the HKU digital certificate (HKU-Cert) issued by the Computer Centre.  Details can be viewed at http://www.itservices.hku.hk/hkuesd.
