1. Personal Data
Protection Exhibition by PCPD
The Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data
(“PCPD”) is organizing a large-scale first-of-its-kind educational
programme on personal data privacy protection for university students
and staff. On 12 and 13 March 2012, the PCPD will come to HKU to promote
the importance of personal data privacy protection among university
students and staff and remind them of the tips and measures to ensure
personal data privacy protection.
The Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data Mr. Allan
Chiang said, “One of the main functions of the PCPD is to raise the
public’s awareness and understanding of personal data privacy
protection. As a university campus is just like a small community and
university students are the pillars of our society in future, we attach
great importance to promoting privacy and data protection to university
students. Since early this year, the PCPD has organized free seminars to
students of some direct-relevant disciplines (e.g. Business
Administration as well as Hotel and Tourism Management). We are now
taking a step forward by conducting face-to-face and interactive
promotional activities in the university campuses. I am pleased that the
campaign has received strong support from various universities.”
During the campaign period, the PCPD will hold a University Education
Day in the university. The activities including seminars, panels
displaying personal data privacy protection information, and Q&A
quizzes. PCPD staff will answer questions at the spot about privacy
protection. Participating students and university staff should benefit a
lot through a
better understanding of the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance (“the
Ordinance”), ways to comply with the Ordinance and tips on privacy protection (e.g. how
to avoid providing excessive personal data during job application and engaging in online
activities).
