ACEnet (HKU Access Everywhere Network)

   

The Access Everywhere Network (ACEnet) provides extensive roaming network access for use by staff and students. It consists of over 3,700 network connection points and 1300 WiFi access points installed all over the University campus.

Printing service via ACEnet and WiFi connection points

Note 1:
After your network card is registered, access to the following Internet services from the HKU campus does not require logging in the HKUVPN. For running other network applications, please first login HKUVPN.

  • E-mail (POP3/IMAP)
  • WWW (http/https using default TCP ports: 80/443)
  • Streaming media (Microsoft Media Player & Real Player)
  • FTP (file transfer program)
  • ICQ connection (default TCP ports: 6667/5190)
  • MSN Messenger connection (default TCP port: 1863)
  • Yahoo Messenger connection (default TCP port: 5050)
  • VPN connection (default TCP port: 1723/UDP port:500)
  • Skype connection (default TCP port: 80/443)
  • You can use the IE browser to do FTP (file transfer). More details.
    For other network services, you have to login HKUVPN.

Note 2:
If you change your network card, you have to de-register the old network card and then register the new one.  If you give your network card to another University member, remember to de-register it first. In case the previous owner of your network card has left the University, you must declare the change in ownership of the network card by filling in Computer Centre form CF-29 "Request for Changing Registered Owner of Network Card" available at http://www.itservices.hku.hk/home/services/forms.htm
