Please walk in and join any of the sessions that you are interested in. We appreciate that you register for the course and/or workshop that you would like to attend via the HKU Portal at https://hkuportal.hku.hk (available under "MyPage" tab => "Campus Information Services" => "Central IT Services" =>"Workshops and Courses").
HKU Portal
HKU Portal (https://hkuportal.hku.hk) – The HKU Portal is a web-based service that allows you to access the central electronic services with single sign-on. Through the HKU Portal, you can access Student Information System (SIS), email services, online course materials, library resources and other online services provided by various departments.
-
HKU Portal User IDentification (UID) -- your unique user account name for using the central IT services. The pre-assigned UID begins with "h" or "u" followed by the 3rd to 9th digit of your HKU student number. You can change your pre-assigned UID once.
- The pre-assigned HKU Portal UID and PIN (i.e. password) are printed on the “Computer Account Details” sheet and distributed to you upon admission registration. Thus, no application is required.
- Students are advised to change their initial PIN to another one that can be memorized without the need to write it down. To change, please go to "HKU Portal" => "MyPage" => "Campus Information Services" => "Central IT Services" => "Change HKU Portal PIN".
- Students can change the pre-assigned HKU Portal UID within 7 days after Master Registration ("HKU Portal" => "MyPage" => "Campus Information Services" => "Central IT Services" => "Change HKU Portal UID".)
Email Address
You can read your email at HKU Portal -> MyEmail tab. Your email address is assigned based on your HKU Portal UID and the pre-assigned email address is hxxxxxxx@hku.hk or uxxxxxxx@hku.hk. If you changed your UID, your email address will be changed correspondingly.
PC accessing the HKU campus network
Students are required to do one-time configuration for connecting their PC/mobile device to the campus network.
WiFi Services
Students can enjoy free WiFi service on HKU campus as well as in other tertiary institutions (CUHK, PolyU, CityU, HKUST, HKBU, LU and HKIEd). For location of WiFi hotspots and setup procedures, refer to http://www.itservices.hku.hk/home/networks/wifi/Uwifi/
Before the one-time configuration, students can also use the "HKU Open WiFi" service that requires no prior configuration. However, this service uses unencrypted channel and has limited capacity only. For details, please refer to http://www.itservices.hku.hk/home/networks/wifi/openwifi/
For free WiFi outside HKU campus for staff and students, refer to
http://www.itservices.hku.hk/home/networks/wifi/.
Cable Connection
Students need to register their network cards of their PCs. The registration procedure is shown at http://www.itservices.hku.hk/faq/register-nic.htm.
Getting Help
Anti-Virus Software Provided for Students
To make the campus network better protected from attacks, students can now download ONE copy of the Sophos anti-virus (SAV) software from HKU Portal ("MyPage" => "Campus Information Services" => "Central IT Services" => "Download Sophos Anti-Virus") and install it on a computer for work related to University studies during their stay at the University.
The use of the software is governed by the Sophos end-user license agreement at http://www.sophos.com/legal/eula.html.
An online guide on installation and use of SAV is available at http://www.itservices.hku.hk/faq/virus/sav-install.htm
